
Volleyball Drops Nail Biter To Falcons
PAXTON, MA - On Tuesday, October 8th the Anna Maria College women's volleyball team hosted the Fitchburg State University Falcons for a non-conference matchup. The AMCATS lost the match 3 sets to 1.
The first set of the evening would be a back and forth affair as the AMCATS stayed on the Falcons heels all the way through. Keeping the score tight right to the end, the AMCATS ultimately fell to the Falcons in set one 25-22.
Trailing 1-0 the AMCATS fought hard in set two after getting off to a slow start. Anna Maria would battle back from an early set deficit ultimately taking the lead over the Falcons. The second set would end with the AMCATS winning 25-20 as they tied the match up at one set a piece.
The Falcons would retake the lead in the third set after going blow for blow with the AMCATS. Tied up 22-22, the Falcons would go on to score three straight points to beat the AMCATS 25-22, pushing the game into its fourth set.
The fourth set would see non stop action as both teams went point for point resulting in the set extending past the 25 point mark. After fighting hard to push the game into the fifth set, the AMCATS would unfortunately fall to the Falcons 31-29, giving Fitchburg a 3-1 win over the AMCATS.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
- Bri Franklin posted a career high of 14 kills against the Falcons.
- Gia Hall recorded a career high of 29 assists.
- Annie Taylor recorded a career high of 52 digs.
- Annie Taylor leads the team so far this season with 263 digs.
- Gia Hall leads the AMCATS with assists with 249 so far this season. The next closest has just 33.
COMING UP:
The AMCATS will be back in action on Saturday, October 12th where they will travel to New London, NH to take on the Chargers of Colby-Sawyer College for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference matchup. Opening set starts at 1:00pm.
