AMCATS Fall to the Engineers

 

Paxton, Mass: The Anna Maria AMCATS competed this evening in a non-conference match up with the Engineers of WPI. The Engineer's were able to defeat the AMCATS 3-0 with set scores of 25-11, 25-21, and 26-24 in the Fuller Center.

 

The Match

 

WPI (7-1) was led by Kassidy Utheim who accumulated ten kills on seventeen attempts. She was followed by Kate Amrein, who had seven kills of her own. Freshmen Lilly Tayler contributed nineteen assists throughout the contest.

 

Anna Maria (1-6) junior Hannah Mitchell (Pittsfield, Mass.) had five kills on the night, giving her a match high for the team. Abygail Chapdelaine (East Longmeadow, Mass.) came in a close second with four total kills for the AMCATS. Mitchell and Chapdelaine's kill count wouldn't have been possible without the eleven assists provided by freshmen Julia Ramos (Orange, Mass.).     

 

Inside the Numbers

 

The Engineers had a night low of nine kills in the first set with four errors on twenty-six total attempts. They managed to rally in the second set and had a night high fifteen kills with eight errors on forty-six attempts. WPI boasted another high kill set as they compiled twelve with only seven errors on forty-four attempts. The Engineers ended the match with a total of thirty-six kills with just nineteen errors.

 

The AMCATS were only able to put up four kills in the first set with nine errors on twenty-eight attempts. In the second set, Anna Maria could only put together a three kill set, with three errors on twenty-eight attempts. The AMCATS rallied going into the third set, as they managed ten kills with only two errors on thirty-seven attempts. Anna Maria totaled seventeen kills with fourteen errors at the end of the match. The Difference came down to serving, as the Engineers of WPI had sixteen aces compared to the Anna Maria AMCAT five.

 

Where Next

 

 For the visiting Engineers they will be back at home, as they face Springfield Saturday the 15th at 1:00 PM in Worcester.

The AMCATS head on the road this Saturday the 15th, to square off against Pine Manor starting at 1:00 PM, along with a TBA match at 3:00 PM.
