Volleyball Falls to Bison in Four Sets

Paxton, Mass: The Anna Maria Volleyball team couldn't hold off the Bison of Nichols College in non-conference play, as they fell 3-1 in Dudley Massachusetts this evening.  

 

The Match

 

The Bison (3-5) came out strong in the first set against the AMCATS tallying seven kills on just three errors as they pulled off a 25-8 victory.

 

The AMCATS (1-5) rebounded and went on the attack as they outperformed the Bison offense in the second set. Anna Maria struck for nine kills with only three errors. Nichols kept it close with eight kills of their own but struggle with returning the ball as they accumulated seven errors. The AMCATS took the second set by a score of 26-24.   

 

In the third and fourth sets the Bison didn't look back as they took both with set scores of 25-9 and 25-18. Nichols put together twenty kills on just eight errors in the final two sets. Compared to the AMCAT eight kills on fourteen errors.

 

Inside the Numbers

 

For the Bison, junior Megan Gardner tallied twelve kills on thirty-five attempts just ahead of freshmen Jayleen Fegan who put together an eleven kill night. Nichols offense would not have been possible without freshmen Rachael Veilleux, who boasted an impressive twenty-five assists.

 

Anna Maria junior Hannah Mitchell (Pittsfield, Mass.) led the team in kills with six on sixteen attempts. Assisting on those six kills was freshmen Julia Ramos (Orange, Mass.) who finished the night with twelve.  

 

Where Next

 

The Bison of Nichols College will be on the court again this Saturday at home in Dudley, as they take on the Lynx of Lesley University at 2:00 PM.

 

The Anna Maria AMCATS will be right back at it Thursday night at home, as they will face WPI in the Fuller Center at 7:00 PM.
