Volleyball Drops Two to Simmons and Dean

 

AMCATS Fall to Sharks in First GNAC Contest

Paxton, Mass: The Anna Maria women's volleyball team fell to Simmons University at home to set scores of 25-11, 25-10, and 25-13 in their first conference match in the Fuller Center in Paxton.

The Match

The Sharks (2-4, 1-0 GNAC) were led by middle blocker and freshmen Amanda Fortune who compiled sixteen kills on twenty-one total attempts. Simmons sophomore setter and outside hitter Faith Gray-Williams tallied eight kills of her own along with fifteen assists, just ahead of junior setter Kenna McCarthy who had fourteen. Together they were able to hold the AMCATS at bay throughout all three sets.

The AMCATS now (1-3, 0-1 GNAC), struggled to find a rhythm on the attack and managed a total of six kills throughout the match. Freshmen Megan Drew (Upton, MA) finished with three kills on eight total attempts. Freshmen setter Julia Ramos (Orange, MA) led Anna Maria with four assists.    

The AMCATS will be back in action Wednesday the 12th on the road to face the Bison of Nichols College starting at 6:00 PM.

 

Anna Maria Folds Three Straight against Dean

Paxton, Mass:  Anna Maria women's volleyball team was blanked by the visiting Bulldogs of Dean College in three sets with scores of 25-14, 25-13, and 26-24 this afternoon in the Fuller Center in Paxton.

The Match

For the Bulldogs (2-3) Melanie Rios-Nevarez led the team with a combined nine kills just ahead of Tori Maynard who had seven. Nicole Defosses was also was in on the action getting almost all of the teams assists with thirteen. As a team the Dean managed sixteen serving aces on only seven serve errors.

The AMCATS (1-4) senior outside hitter Sarah Lathrop (Waterford, CT) had a match high seven kills for Anna Maria. Lathrop was seconded by freshmen outside hitter Taylor Hoffstedt (Lanesborough, MA) who had 3 kills. The AMCATS also were able to serve the ball very well stealing thirteen points away from Dean on aces.

Next, the AMCATS will look to bounce back as they go on the road to Dudley, Mass to visit the Bison of Nichols College Wednesday the 12th at 6:00 PM.
