AMC Names Jamika Townsend Women’s Volleyball Coach

PAXTON, Mass – The Anna Maria College Athletic Department has named Jamika Townsend the women's volleyball coach as announced by athletic Director, Serge DeBari, this week. Townsend, a Suffolk, VA native, joins Anna Maria following two years serving as an assistant at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) under head coach Greg Poole.

"Coach Townsend is a hard working individual with a great attitude who is looking for an opportunity to succeed as a head coach at the collegiate level." DeBari said, "We believe she has the knowledge and experience to do just that at Anna Maria. I look forward to working with her in developing and growing the AMCAT volleyball team."

Prior to her time at WPI, Townsend led the Algonquin Regional High School Boys JV program to a turnaround season and had a successful stint with the Coastal AAU 14u National team, which became a top team in Virginia in 2013. Jamika also spent time coaching at South Main High School and Claremont Academy, both in Worcester, Mass. Coach Townsend is also a head coach at the CMass Volleyball Club in Marlborough, Mass.

During her playing career, Townsend spent two years as a member of the Worcester State University volleyball program. Despite the short tenure, her name appears six times in the Lancers record book. Townsend is currently third in career assists per set (6.46) and fifth in career assists (704). The 2015 campaign saw her dole out 623 assists for an average of 6.77 per set to rank sixth and fourth, respectively. Townsend is also tied for fourth with 48 assists versus Lesley and sixth with 47 against MCLA, also in 2015. Her first year on Chandler Street led to the MASCAC finals and ECAC Division III New England semifinals. Jamika graduated from Worcester State with a bachelor's degree in economics.

"I am very excited to be a part of Anna Maria College athletics." Townsend said, "I am looking forward to my opportunity here. My goal is to bring a winning attitude to this program and have a successful tenure with the AMCATS."
