Volleyball Records First 20-Win Season with Victories over Mount Ida, Norwich

NEWTON, Mass.—The Anna Maria College volleyball team matched their season-long winning streak with two victories in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) tri-match action on Friday night at Mount Ida College. The AMCATS downed their hosts, 3-0, before defeating Norwich in a neutral match by the same score.

The victories extend the AMCATS' current winning streak to seven matches and see them conclude the regular season at 20-10 overall and 8-3 in GNAC play. It marks the first 20-win season in the 25-year history of Anna Maria College volleyball.

ANNA MARIA 3, MOUNT IDA 0

Behind a game-high 19 kills from sophomore Amari King (Lawrence, Mass.), the AMCATS handed the Mustangs a three-set loss with scores of 25-10, 25-17, and 25-18. Junior Rebecca Foti (Bedford, N.H.) added 11 kills and seven digs in the win, and sophomore libero Carolina Garcia (Springfield, Mass.) had a game-high 17 digs.

Mount Ida was paced by eight kills from Molly Alkinburg and nine digs and 19 assists out of freshman setter Alexis Bell.

Anna Maria served 12 aces in the win, getting three apiece from Demi Carrero (Mamaroneck, N.Y.), Alyssa Goulet (Lawrence, Mass.), King, and Tierney Clancy (Meriden, Conn.), who had 31 assists for an AMCATS team that hit .348, making just five errors, starting with a first set in which they hit .421 and made just one error en route to the 25-10 victory.

ANNA MARIA 3, NORWICH 0

King continued her monster day with a 23-kill performance in a .465 hitting effort in the 3-0 victory over Norwich. Set scores were 25-15, 25-12, 25-14.

The AMCATS were strong offensively in the victory, tallying 11 kills in both the first and second sets before exploding for 17 in the third set. As a team, the AMCATS made just eight errors and hit at .349.

Foti chipped in with 10 kills, while Goulet added three. Garcia tallied 16 digs and Clancy dished out 34 assists.

WHAT'S NEXT

With today's victories, Anna Maria has secured home-court advantage in the GNAC Quarterfinals. Tournament seeding will be announced Saturday evening.
