Volleyball Downs Nichols, Falls to Coast Guard in Tri-Match

NEW LONDON, Conn. – the Anna Maria College volleyball team went 1-1 on the day falling to host Coast Guard 3-1 (25-15, 19-25, 25-21, 25-18) and topping Nichols 3-0 (25-12, 25-15, 25-22) in non-conference action.

The AMCATS are now 14-10 on the season.

AMCAT LEADERS

Junior Rebecca Foti (Bedford, N.H.) had a combined 30 kills to lead Anna Maria while freshman Alyssa Goulet (Lawrence, Mass.) had nine kills in the second match hitting .562. Sophomore Amari King (Lawrence, Mass.) also had 30 kills with 13 digs. Sophomore Carolina Garcia (Springfield, Mass.) had 41 digs on the day while freshman Tierney Clancy (Meriden, Conn.) had a combined 45 assists over the two matches.

COAST GUARD 3, ANNA MARIA 1

In the first match against Coast Guard, the two teams split the first two sets. In the third set the AMCATS held a one-point advantage until the Bears went on a 7-2 run for a 20-16 lead on their way to a 25-21 win. 

Anna Maria was tied with the Bears at 14-14 in the fourth set but Coast Guard finished on an 11-4 run to seal the victory.

ANNA MARIA 3, NICHOLS 0

In the second match Anna Maria won the first two sets in dominant fashion and then came from behind in the third and final set battling back from a four-point deficit scoring the final seven points earning their 14th win of the season.

WHAT'S NEXT

The AMCATS embark on a four-match homestand next week, opening with a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) match against Suffolk on Wednesday, October 19th.

The team will honor lone senior Demi Carrero (Mamaroneck, N.Y.) at Saturday, Octover 22nd's doubleheader against Albertus Magnus and Saint Joseph's before closing out the season with Dig Pink night on Tuesday, October 25th against Worcester State.
