Leopards Pounce Past Volleyball, 3-0

BOSTON, Mass. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology Leopards women's volleyball team claimed a 3-0 win over Anna Maria in a non-conference match at Tansey Gymnasium on Thursday evening. 

With the win the Leopards improve to 18-3 on the season while the AMCATS fall to 13-9.

HOW IT HAPPENED 

The first set saw the AMCATS use a 5-0 run with four points coming off of serves from sophomore Lillie Clark (Vista, Calif.) to take an 11-5 lead. Wentworth would increase its lead to as many as 10 (24-14) on a Clark service ace and took the opening set, 25-16. Sophomore Amari King (Lawrence, Mass.) had six kills in the set for Anna Maria.

Wentworth led wire-to-wire in the second set, jumping out to an 8-1 lead and never looking back. The Leopards held a 17-8 lead before the AMCATS used a 6-0 run to trim the deficit to four at 17-13. Junior Katelyn Carlson (Stratford, Conn.) closed out the set by recording a kill and then being on the service line for the next seven points as the Leopards won, 25-13. 

The Leopards won the first three points of the third set and led by six (12-6) after an attack error. Anna Maria closed the gap to as few as three on a pair of occasions, including when junior Rebecca Foti (Bedford, N.H.) recorded a kill at 15-12. The Black & Gold scored 10 of the final 16 points to close out the match.

WENTWORTH LEADERS 

Freshman Leah Rogoz (Woodridge, Ill.) had 14 kills and 15 digs and classmate Samantha Lassiter (Rogers, Ark.) had 10 kills, six blocks, and hit .500 to lead the Leopards. 

Freshman Claire Quick (Mission Viejo, Calif.) added seven kills while Carlson had 18 assists and freshman Katie Clouse (Hudson Falls, N.Y.) had 15 assists. Clark had 15 digs and four aces in the win.

AMCAT LEADERS 

King had 10 kills, seven digs, and four blocks for Anna Maria. Foti added nine kills and sophomore Carlolina Garcia (Springfield, Mass.) had 10 digs.

WHAT'S NEXT 

Wentworth is at Newbury on Saturday for a tri-match with the Nighthawks and Mitchell. Anna Maria is at Coast Guard for a tri-match on Saturday with the Bears and Nichols.
