Volleyball Falls to Lesley, 3-1

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Lesley University sophomore Kaylee Deluga (Dennis, Mass.) knocked down a career-best 15 kills while swinging .303 for the match to lead the Lynx to a 3-1 (25-21, 25-17, 18-25, 25-21) non-conference win over Anna Maria College tonight at the Nicholas Athletics Center.

The win improves the Lynx to 5-6 on the year while the AMCATS drop to an even 6-6 with the loss.

AMCAT NUMBERS

Anna Maria freshman Amari King (Lawrence, Mass.) led a balanced AMCAT attack with ten kills while sophomores Rebecca Foti (Bedford, N.H.) finished with eight. Second year Telliah Bursie (Cheektowaga, N.Y.) and senior Jessica Goulet (Lawrence, Mass.) each added seven kills while senior setter Samantha Parker (Athol, Mass.) led the team with 33 assists. Parker and freshman Carolina Garcia (Springfield, Mass.) each corralled 20 digs to lead the AMCAT offense.

LYNX NUMBERS

Fellow sophomore Anni Abbruzzese (Croton on Hudson, N.Y.) helped supply more offense for the Lynx as she finished with 13 kills to go with 20 digs. Sophomore Ciara Bruning (Centerville, Mass.) finished with seven kills and classmate Sarah Hollis (Hudson, Mass.) added four. Senior Emily Marden (Fremont, Calif.) dished out a match-high 35 assists while digging out 17 balls on the defensive side while Danielle McDonald (Lilitz, Pa.) finished with 18 digs for the hosts.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Anna Maria held a commanding 18-10 lead in the opening set before a Deluga smash sparked a 9-1 run to tie the set at 19-19. The AMCATS would jump ahead 21-20 following a kill by junior Demi Carrero (Mamaroneck, N.Y.), but the Lynx would score the final five points of the set to claim the first 25-21.

The AMCATS would jump ahead once again early in the second as a kill by King put the guests up 7-4. The Lynx again would counter with a furious run as they would go on to score 16 of the next 20 points to jump in front 20-11 before taking the set 25-17.

The third set was evenly played throughout. Late in the set with the AMCATS leading 18-17, a King kill ignited a 7-1 run for the guests as the avoided sweep with a 25-18 third set win.

The momentum would not carry over the break however, as the Lynx opened up the fourth with a 13-4 lead before hanging on for the 25-21 set win to close out the match.

WHAT'S NEXT

The Lynx will return to the court on Monday when they travel to Mt. Ida College for a non-conference tilt at 6:00 p.m. while the AMCATS will host a tri-match with Daniel Webster College and Connecticut College at 10:00 a.m. this Saturday.
