Women's Soccer Blanked By Colby Sawyer College, 4-0

PAXTON, MA - The Anna Maria women's soccer team (3-8-1, 0-6-1) dropped their Great Northeast Athletic Conference matchup with the Colby-Sawyer College Chargers (6-8-0, 3-4-0), 4-0 on Saturday afternoon at AMCAT Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Chargers struck first at 15:10 when Raina Ceryak (Naugatuck, CT) drew a foul near mid-field and sent her kick down near the goalie box to a running Sydney Jimmo (Shelburne, VT) who sent the ball past a diving AMCATS keeper, Alice Yokabaskas (Farmingdale, ME) for the early 1-0 lead.
  • Colby Sawyer College struck again later in the first half at 30:40 when Jimmo drew a foul and had a free-kick opportunity. Jimmo blasted her kick past the Anna Maria defense to make the score 2-0.
  • Anna Maria had a chance to cut the deficit down to one before the half ended when Briana Riley (Bluffton, SC) put on a shot on net that hit off the right side of the post. The Chargers corralled the loose ball and were able to maintain their 2-0 lead headed into half time.
  • As the second half got underway, both sides played a tightly contested match, but Jimmo completed her hat trick at 73:31 off a penalty kick. Colby-Sawyer College added one more goal at 76:56 from Kelsey Cranston (Ipswich, MA)

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Yokabaskas and Rachel Matloff (Grafton, MA) split time in net making 10 saves in total.
  • Alexis LeBreton (Bangor, ME) had five saves for the visitors.
  • Riley's four shots paced the AMCATS with four, DeAnna Baker (Lansdale, PA) was not far behind with two, and Shannon LeBlanc (Lancaster, MA) and Keannah Dunsmore (Georgia, VT) had one shot respectively.
  • The AMCATS and Chargers each had a penalty kick after the first half, but Colby-Sawyer College ultimately held a 3-2 edge.
