AMCATS Downed by Sharks in Women’s Soccer

Paxton, Mass. – Simmons forward Greer Gilbert (Falmouth, Mass.) scored a late first half goal en route to a natural hat-trick to propel the visiting Sharks past the Anna Maria College AMCATS in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's soccer action at AMCAT Field on Wednesday night.

With the win the Sharks improve to 7-9 overall and 4-6 in conference play, the AMCATS remain winless at 0-10 in the conference and dip to 4-11-1 overall.

Gilbert notched her eighth goal of the season with a low hard shot past the outstretched reach of Anna Maria netminder Teresa Ryan (Shrewsbury, Mass.) just before intermission. The sophomore added an insurance goal in the 67th minute when she laced a crossing pass from Ali Berkman (Natick, Mass.) inside the left post for the 2-0 lead and scored late on a break-a-way pass from Berkman for the 3-0 final.

The AMCATS played a smothering defense all night stymieing the Simmons strikers, while Ryan made several point-blank saves to hold the high-power offense in check. Ryan would finish the night with 13 solid saves, while Cristina Turley (Waterford, Conn.) paced the offense with one shot on goal.

Anna Maria wraps up their season on Saturday afternoon when they travel to Johnson and Wales University for a 3:30pm tilt.
