Women's Lacrosse Upends Mitchell College, 19-8

PAXTON, MA - Behind a seven-goal career-day from Bryce McDonald (Dracut, MA), the Anna Maria College women's lacrosse team took down Mitchell College, 19-8 and extended their win streak to two games.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Mitchell College took a quick 2-0 lead after two goals from Daniella Holland (Nanuet, NY) and Lindsey Fairbank (Newington, CT) at 28:27 and 25:12 respectively. However, the AMCATS roared back to the tie contest at three from goals by two goals from McDonald and one by Ashley Rufo (Pittsfield, MA)
  • After a successful clear attempt, Rufo generated her own offense and broke the 3-3 draw at 18:42 but shortly after (17:47), Hannah Corrigan (Fairfax, VT) evened the contest at four. From there, the 'CATS rattled off six straight goals (10-5) to wrap up the half which included two goals apiece from Rufo and McDonald and a goal from Alyssa Vacca (Wakefield, MA) and Alyssa MacDonald (Nanaimo, BC)
  • Anna Maria continued the offensive output in the second half when the squad peppered Mariners goalie, Gillian MacLellan (Columbus, GA) with nine goals and ultimately topped Mitchell by an 19-8 margin. During the AMCATS' outpouring of goals, the squad saw contributions by Sierra Green (Lewiston, ME) (twice), McDonald (three times), Vacca (twice), Alice Yokabaskas (Farmingdale, ME), and MacDonald.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • McDonald's seven goals are a career-high and now has 10 goals on the year. She has surpassed her goal total from last year (six) in just three games. 
  • McDonald's seven-goal performance puts her in a tie for second for most goals scored in an individual game (Katie Schebel; vs Pine Manor; 3/11/2009|Katie Schebel; Pine Manor; 3/18/2010|Katie Schebel; vs Daniel Webster; 4/4/2009). 
  • Rufo's four goals put her in the team lead on the season with 12. 
  • Yokabaskas' goal marked the first of her collegiate career. 
  • Emma Walsh (Dracut, MA) drew the start and collected eight saves and improved her record to 2-1 on the year. Ashley Sheehan (Medford, MA) also saw time in net and in 10 minutes of action, she had four saves. 
  • For the hosts, MacLellan had the start and made 13 saves in the loss. 
  • Mitchell turned the ball over 22 times and Anna Maria caused half of them (11 caused turnovers). Meanwhile, the AMCATS had only 11 in the afternoon. 
  • Anna Maria was a program-best 20-23 on clear attempts which included a perfect 11-11 in the second half. Whereas Mitchell was 12-17.

Anna Maria has some time off before they travel to Becker College on Sunday, March 15 at 12 PM. Mitchell College continues their road trip when they head to Eastern Connecticut State on Wednesday, March 11 at 3 PM.
