Women's Lacrosse Falls in First Game Back Since 2019

PAXTON, Mass: The Anna Maria Women's Lacrosse Team was defeated in their first game back as a program by Norwich University in conference action.

The Cadets came out firing on all cylinders, led by two quick Emily Schromm (North Attleboro, Mass.) goals within the first five minutes of action. Norwich scored six straight unanswered goals before Aby Chapdelaine found the back of the net for the AMCATS off a free-position shot midway through the first half. The maroon and gold turned on the jets from there, scoring six goals in just five minutes to coast to the 12-1 halftime lead. It was much of the same during the second half, as Norwich put up eight goals while holding Anna Maria scoreless to seal the 20-1 victory.

NU filled the stat sheet with 20 goals on 30 shots on goal, outpacing the AMCATS in draw controls (19-5), shots (37-5), and ground balls (27-7) on the evening.

Several Cadets put up big days, including Emily Schromm with three goals and a pair of assists, Missy Preul (Scottsdale, Ariz.) with four goals on five shots, Brynn Mendes (Centerville, Mass.) with a hat trick and an assist in her collegiate debut, fellow freshman Kate Winstanley (Lansdale, Pa.) putting up four goals and an assist, and Mary-Kait Mace (Canton, N.Y.) leading the pack with four goals and a pair of assists for a six-point day. Lawson Hayes (Moorestown, N.J.) played all 60:00 in goal to pick up her eighth career win.

The AMCATS will be back in action this coming Wednesday as they travel to Emmanuel for a 6 PM start.
