Maureen Ruane Named Women’s Lacrosse Head Coach

PAXTON, Mass – At the beginning of August, Athletics Director Serge DeBari named Paxton, Mass native Maureen Ruane head women's lacrosse coach.

"The Anna Maria College athletic department and community is excited to announce the hiring of Coach Maureen Ruane," Said AD Serge DeBari. "Maureen brings a high level of energy and experience to AMC that paired with her coaching experience will garner a positive, winning atmosphere within the program." Added DeBari.

Coach Ruane's coaching career began in 2007 as an assistant at Assumption College in Worcester, Mass. She secured her first head coaching position in 2010 when she took over the girl's lacrosse program at Wachusett Regional High School in Holden, Mass. Following her time at Wachusett, Coach Ruane took over head coaching duties at Elms College in Chicopee, Mass where she spent four years. For the last two years she was the club head coach at Clark University and was instrumental in helping the program become an NCAA member and they will play their first season in the Spring of 2019.

Coach Ruane now takes over an Anna Maria program that has been in a rebuild phase for the past year after it was announced that the program would be revamped after not playing since 2014.

"I am excited to lead the women's lacrosse program at Anna Maria College. Paxton is my hometown and it is an honor to have been named the team's head coach," Said Coach Ruane. "I look forward to starting this program up again and fostering a positive and winning attitude."

Maureen played four years of Division III women's lacrosse at Curry College from 2003-2007 and competed in every game throughout her career. Elected team captain during her junior and senior seasons, Coach Ruane was a weekly Commonwealth Coast Conference award winner, was named the CCC Defensive Player of the Year and was selected to the CCC All-Conference teams during her career at Curry.

Maureen graduated from Curry College in 2007 with a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice with a concentration in women's studies and psychology.
