Women’s Lacrosse: Wildcats Claw Past AMCATS

Paxton, Mass. – Anna Maria College sophomore Brittany Jackson (Mamaroneck, NY) score the lone goal as the AMCATS fell to Wheelock College 20-1 in non-conference women's lacrosse action on Thursday night at AMCAT Field.

With the loss the AMCATS dip to 0-10, while Wheelock improves to 2-4 on the season.

Wheelock was paced by seven goals and three assists off the stick of junior Emma Marrs (Old Lyme, Conn.), while junior Molly Centore (Kennebunk, Maine) chipped in with five goals on ten shots. Senior Christina Cubera (Baltimore, MD) added a hat trick and junior Valerie Ferrante (Milford, Mass.) scored four goals and handed out nine assists.

Wheelock wasted little time tallying the first goal of the game on their first shot on net. Marrs found an open Centore who deposited it past AMC netminder Bridget Larsen (Hull, Mass.) 1:57 into the match. Marrs would pot a natural hat trick over a three minute span to push the Wildcat lead to 4-0 with 23:45 remaining in the period.

Trailing 9-0, Anna Maria broke up the shutout with 9:41 on the clock. Jackson, working hard in the offensive zone, notched an unassisted goal. It was Jackson's fifth goal of the season.

The Wildcats would close out the half with four unanswered goals. Cubera and Marrs would add singles and Ferrante a pair of markers to give the Wildcats a 13-1 lead heading into intermission.

Wheelock would dominate the second half, outscoring Anna Maria 10-0 for the 23-1 final.

Larsen would finish with 14 saves for AMC in the loss, while her counterpart Meghan Lewis (South Berwick, Maine) stopped six AMCATS shots en route to her second win of the season.

Anna Maria returns to action on Sunday afternoon when they travel to Albertus Magnus for a GNAC contest. Wheelock
