WOMEN'S HOCKEY RETURNS FROM BREAK WITH LOSS TO PILGRIMS

HENNIKER, NH– The Anna Maria Women's Ice Hockey team traveled to Henniker, NH on Friday January 3rd, 2025, to take on the Pilgrims of New England College. The AMCATS lost the game 4 to 2.

The Pilgrims would get things started quickly against the AMCATS scoring the first goal of the game just three minutes into the first period. That would put the AMCATS on their heels but there was plenty of time left in the game to find the equalizer. The first period would go back and forth with both teams getting chances, but the score would remain the same with the Pilgrims ahead of the AMCATS 1 to 0 to end the first period.

The AMCATS would look to come out strong in the second period, as they needed to find the offensive momentum in themselves and as a team to put goals up on the score board. It would be Anna Maria to come out strong, just what they wanted and needed, and find the equalizer goal to tie the Pilgrims. The goal would come from AMCAT Jada Kosowan who would find a loose puck in front of the net and bury it to get the AMCATS on the board. The AMCATS would need to use this momentum and offensive skills to keep the pressure on the Pilgrims and put some goals up on the score board. Despite the AMCATS finding the equalizer in the second period it would be just over a minute later that the Pilgrims would find the back of the net, to regain the lead over the AMCATS. The AMCATS would continue the offensive pressure and getting multiple shots and chances on the Pilgrims goalie, but she would continue to keep the AMCATS off the score board limiting them to just one goal in the second period. Despite the AMCATS outshooting the Pilgrims 25 to 13, the Pilgrims would manage to get one more goal on the powerplay before the second period would end, with the AMCATS heading to the locker room down to the Pilgrims 3 to 1.

The AMCATS would look to come out strong in the third period with offensive pressure and to tighten up the defensive side of the puck. The third period would not start how the AMCATS would have liked it too, as the Pilgrims would go on the powerplay, with about six minutes into the third period and would strike again adding to their lead over the AMCATS 4 to 1. The AMCATS would not back down though as they had plenty of time left in the third period to put pressure on the Pilgrims and continue to take chances and shots on the Pilgrims goalie to try and find some offensive momentum and get themselves a second goal on the board. Despite the Pilgrims goalie, deny the AMCATS opportunities, it would be Olympia Myers to find the back of the net for the AMCATS, to cut the Pilgrims lead in half with about four minutes left in the third period. The AMCATS would give it their all, and despite outshooting the Pilgrims 35 to 19 and pulling the goalie for the extra attacker, the score board would tick down to the buzzer, and the AMCATS would fall to the Pilgrims 4 to 2.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Jada Kosowan would get her first career NCAA goal against the Pilgrims.
  • Olympia Myers would add her third goal of the season tonight against the Pilgrims and lead the AMCATS with 6 shots on goal.
