Anna Maria Downed By Chatham, 4-3

MARLBOROUGH, MA - Three different AMCATS scored on the night, but it was not enough as the Chatham University Cougars (3-4-1) defeated Anna Maria College AMCATS (1-5-1) by a score of 4-3 Friday evening at the New England Sports Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Anna Maria continued their goal-scoring ways from last week when Sophia Zimmerman (Crystal, MN) tallied her second goal of the year at 7:27. Chatham turned the puck over in their face-off zone and Zimmerman out-skated the Cougars defender and put her shot past Katy Reed's (St. Louis, MO) right side for the quick 1-0 advantage.
  • Chatham answered back nine minutes later at 16:06 when Holly Ackerman (East Rockaway, NY) deflected her shot past Julia Smith (Chillwack, BC) courtsey of passes from Grace Johnson (Fawn, PA) and Rachel Frederick (Doylestown, PA).
  • The second period saw back and forth play with three goals being scored between the two schools. However, Anna Maria outscored Chatham, 2-1 in the period. McKenna Naumchik (Somers Point, NJ) gave the squad the lead just five minutes into the period after she collected a pass from Abigail Vigliotte (Medford, MA) for the quick strike and 2-1 lead. The Cougars answered back quickly in just over a minute when Sydney Collins (Wake Forest, NC) riffled a Kerry Carr (New Hartford, NY) pass past Smith's glove side to even the contest at two.
  • Grace Dodge (St. Paul, MN) gave the AMCATS their final lead of the game after she put home a pass from Naumchik and Annabelle Austin (Anchorage, AK) for the 3-2 lead to end the period.
  • Collins completed her hat trick in the third period when she scored at 5:49 and the eventual game-winner at 9:47 to give Chatham the 4-3 victory despite multiple scoring opportunities from the 'Cats.
