Women's Hockey Ties it up with Monarchs

PAXTON, Mass: The Anna Maria Women's Ice Hockey Team tied this afternoon against Kings PA 3-3 in Pennsylvania.

The Monarchs (1-19-1) struck first with Maggie Gould in the first period with Josee Aiken and Meghan Mietlicki getting credit for the assists. Kings would hold onto the 1-0 lead until 5 minutes into the second period when AMCAT (2-13-1) Riley Cote (Tewksbury, Mass.) put in her second goal in as many days on a pass from Mackenzie Morin (North Smithfield, RI) and Geogia McLellan (Kamloops, BC).

Kings would answer right back and go on a 2-0 run 30 seconds later with a go ahead goal by Caitlin Redden, putting them up 2-1. The second goal came 13 minutes into the second period by Josee Aitken to increase the Monarchs lead to two.

With just 5 minutes left in the third Julianne Nelson (Armstrong, BC) was able to beat the goaltender to put the AMCATS down by just one to go into the third.

It was a very quiet third period with Anna Maria down 3-2, and 15 seconds left on the clock. AMCATS coach Mike Cox decides to pull the goalie to add an extra attacker and it pays off when McLellan was able to score the tying goal to push the game into overtime.

No one would be able to score in overtime, completing the game as a draw 3-3.
