Women's Basketball Drop Nail Biter to Wildcats

PAXTON, Mass: The Anna Maria Women's Basketball Team fell just short of GNAC opponent Johnson and Wales this afternoon 58-56, in Providence Rhode Island.

Anna Maria: 9-14, 6-4 GNAC
Johnson & Wales: 5-16, 4-4 GNAC

 

Statistical Leaders:

Amber Wilson (AMC): 25 points, 5 rebounds

Ally Mishol (JWU): 14 points, 13 rebounds
Marissa Cottrell (JWU): 10 points, 9 rebounds

Of Note:

Ally Mishol knocked down a jumper with 1:56 left in the game to give JWU a 58-54. A minute later Franceshesca Hammond made a basket, but the AMCATS would miss on their last two trips down the floor, including a Sierra Johnson shot at the buzzer.

 

The two teams were evenly matched with neither squad holding a lead higher than four points. Sierra Johnson made a three-pointer in the final minute of the second quarter to give the AMCATS at 30-27 halftime lead.

 

Late in the third quarter Johnson & Wales took control. Britney Gallagher knocked down a pair of free throws to give JWU a 46-36 lead with 2:41 left in the quarter.

Both teams hit three three-pointers and 11 free throws with JWU's extra basket making the difference. The Wildcats also had a 42-33 rebounding advantage.

 

Three Wildcats reached double figures, topped by Tara Murphy's 12 points to go along with seven rebounds. Marissa Cottrell came off the bench to add 11 points and six rebounds.

 

Leading all scorers was AMC's Amber Wilson with 25 points and five rebounds. Johnson kicked in 10 and the duo combined for 63 percent of the AMCATS' scoring.

The AMCATS will be back in action this Tuesday for their last game of the regular season. They will take to the road to play Colby-Sawyer, with tipoff at 7 PM.
