Women's Basketball Upended by Clark

THE BASICS

-The Lead: The Clark University Women's Basketball team dominated their way to a victory over non-conference opponent, Anna Maria College on Tuesday afternoon. The Cougars were led by senior Sam O'Gara (Worcester, Mass.) who had a game-leading 21 points on the night and sophomore Hannah Favaloro (Blackstone, Mass.) who posted her third double-double of the season with 17 points and a game high 15 rebounds

HOW IT HAPPENED

-The Cougars took an early 8-0 lead in the first quarter with six of the points from O'Gara. They pulled ahead by 10 with 3:23 on the clock when Favaloro hit a jumper and two free throws (12-2). Another layup from O'Gara would put the hosts ahead by 16 with 2:28 in the first (18-2). The AMCATS finished the first with a 4-0 run highlighted by a three-pointer from freshman Mariah Carey (Worcester, Mass.) to come back within eight (18-10).

-Clark started the second quarter with a three-pointer from senior Maya Kerstetter (Northampton, Mass.) (21-10). Anna Maria added three points when junior Sierra Johnson (Brockton, Mass.) capitalized on an and-one play and they trailed by just eight with 7:59 on the clock (21-13). The Cougars climbed back to an 11-point lead just over a minute later when first year Emily Sifferlen  (North Andover, Mass.) stepped behind the arc for three (28-17). Back-to-back 2-for-2 appearances at the free-throw line from Carey and junior Hailey Moore (Worcester, Mass.) brought Anna Maria within five (30-25) of the Cougars with just over a minute and a half remaining in the second. O'Gara wrapped up the quarter with a jumper to put Clark ahead by seven heading into the halftime break.

-Clark outshot Anna Maria 14-6 in the third quarter including eight more points from Favaloro to take a 15-point advantage into the final stanza. O'Gara put up seven points in the final quarter to help the Cougars outshoot the AMCATS 16-11 and take home the final 62-42 victory.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

-O'Gara and Favaloro combined for 38 of Clark's points and Kerstetter added six in the victory.

-Anna Maria was led by Johnson who put up 14 points and Carey who came off the bench with 12 points. Graduate student Johanna Burke (Oxford, Mass.) led the AMCATS under the basket with 10 rebounds.

-Clark shot 32.5% from the field while Anna Maria shot 25.6%.

-The AMCATS edged Clark in rebounding, 42-42.

-Anna Maria turned the ball over 41 times while Clark turned it over 18 times. Clark scored 37 points off of turnovers.

-Clark travels to Simmons College on Wednesday, November 28th for a non-conference game at 7:00 p.m.

-Anna Maria is back in action on Saturday, November 24th when they travel to Eastern Nazarene for a 1:00 p.m. contest.
