AMCATS Fall to Saints in Season Finale

BOSTON, Mass – Saturday afternoon the AMCATS travelled to Boston to play Emmanuel College. Though the hopes of the Anna Maria squad were high going in, the Saints were able to roll over the 'Cats.

For the AMCATS, senior guard Kristina Russo (South Windsor, Conn) continued her scoring way, tallying a game-high 28 points. Russo was the only player in double-digit scoring for the visitors. Grad student Johanna Burke (Oxford, Mass) and senior guard Maritza Gustave (Fall River, Mass) each pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds. Guatve scored seven points in the game and Burke dished out four assists. Freshman guard Franchesca Hammond (Worcester, Mass) closed her rookie season with seven points on three-of-five shooting while also handing out four assists.

Emmanuel had four players in double-digits with senior guard Ryan Maynard (Bowie, Md) leading the way with 22 points. Senior guard Alisha Fox (National Park, N.J.) scored 18 points of her own. Coming off the bench and scoring 12 and 11 points respectively were junior guard Olivia Dalphonse (Buxton, Maine) and junior guard Madison McLaughlin (Westerly, R.I.).

Though the AMCATS were able to keep pace with the Saints in the first quarter, only being outscored by seven, 20-13, they were unable to keep up in the second as the Emmanuel defense kept the 'Cats to five points while their offense put up a staggering 37 points extending their lead to 39, 57-18, at the half time break.

In the third quarter, Anna Maria put up their highest period total of the game, scoring 21 points. Emmanuel was still able to outscore the AMCATS by two to continue opening their lead. In the fourth quarter, the hosts opened the lead again by seven more as the AMCATS never had an answer for the Saints in this one. At the end of the forty minutes the #2 seed in the GNAC had defeated AMC 104-56.
