Women's Basketball: Monks Down AMCATS, 74-55

Paxton, Mass. – Anna Maria College freshman Deja Taitt (Jamaica, N.Y.) scored a team high 15 points, but it was not enough, as Saint Joseph's College of Maine defeated the AMCATS 74-55, in the first Great Northeast Athletic  Conference  match-up of the season for both squads.  The visiting Monks improve to 9-3 (1-0 GNAC) on the year, while AMC slides to 5-7 (0-1 GNAC).

Juniors Trafficia Warburton (Worcester, Mass.) and Katie Pryor (Whitinsville, Mass.) contributed to the AMCATS offense with 10 points apiece and senior Taylor Walker (Winchedon, Mass.) pulled in a team high 8 rebounds.

This was a close battle throughout the majority of the first half, with both teams trading buckets, the score was 21-21 with 6 minutes remaining before halftime.  From there, the Monks went on an 11 point run, as they jumped to a 32-21 lead with 3 minutes to go.  Back to back 3 pointers by Katie Pryor and freshman Christina Gauvin (Dudley, Mass.) cut into the Monks lead, but Saint Joseph's scored the final 4 points of the half, leading 36-27 at the break.

The Monks were able to add to their lead early in the second half.  Leading by 7, Saint Joseph's senior Lindsay Moore (Barrington, N.H.) converted a pivotal 3 point play to grab a 10 point lead with 15 minutes remaining in the game.  The Monks offense heated up, and the AMCATS were not able to battle back.  The Monks were led by senior Abby Young (North Yarmouth, ME) with a game high 17 points and Lindsay Moore with 16 points.

The AMCATS return to action on Tuesday evening for another GNAC contest as they visit Albertus Magnus.  Tip-off for that game is slated for 7:00 PM.
