Scots fight past AMCATS in TCCC matchup

WENHAM, MA. -- The Gordon women's basketball team snapped a 10-game losing streak, defeating Anna Maria 66-50 at the Bennett Center on Tuesday night. The win moves Gordon to 2-11 overall and 1-1 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference. AMC drops to 6-8 and is 0-2 in league play. Sophomore forward Kayla Pacheco (Sutton, MA) led three Gordon players in double figures as she tallied 18 points and 12 rebounds. Catey Marshall (St. Johnsbury, VT) added 13 points, while Sara Schwanke (Duxbury, MA) chipped in with 10. Lauren Kranyak (Locust Grove, VA) nearly had a double-double with nine points and 10 rebounds. Anna Maria had moved out to a 13-8 lead at the 10:02 mark of the first half, when Gordon went on a 17-2 run to close out the stanza. Pacheco's tough inside play and Marshall's scrappy defense helped Gordon take a 25-15 lead into the break. In the second half Gordon put together their best offensive half of the season as they shot 16 of 34 from the floor and 4 of 7 from behind the 3-point arc. The Scots also outrebounded Anna Maria 24-11 after the intermission. Clancey Adams (West Simsbury, CT) hit two crucial three-pointers and Pacheco had 12 points to help Gordon maintain a comfortable lead. The AMCATS were led by Chelsea Blair (Holland, MA) who finished with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Samantha Alston (Worcester, MA) and Kayla Cummings (Auburn, ME) each had nine points. The 66 points was a season high from the Gordon offense. Gordon will look to continue the winning trend on Thursday when they travel to Hartford for a non-conference matchup with St. Joseph's (CT) at 7P.M. Anna Maria will face Colby-Sawyer in New London, NH at 3P.M. on Saturday.Release Courtesy of Gordon Sports InformationPhoto Courtesy of David Sheridan for AMC Sports Information
