NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Norwich Cadets took first place in the 2010-11 Annual Ed Hockenbury Classic this afternoon, defeating the Anna Maria College AMCATS, 72-53 in the championship game. In the consolation round, Green Mountain College came up short against the University of Maine – Machias, 65-50. For the first time in five years, Norwich came out on top as the host's of the Classic, having defeated Green Mountain College on Friday night, 66-38. In the championship round, the Cadets reached a .500 record, as they now stand 3-3 overall this season.Senior captain Christine Daniels recorded a season-best game with a double-double, accumulating 22 points and 15 rebounds. She was credited with one assist against Anna Maria, and went a perfect 6-of-6 at the free throw line. Helping the Cadets reach victory, senior Karissa Doyon netted a season-best 26 points, going 9-of-14 in shooting. She tallied one board, made four steals in the contest and earned three assists. Junior Cadet Jocelyn Fasulo also made an impact in the game, contributing 10 points to the score, making six boards and earning one assist and one steal in the action.For Anna Maria (3-4), sophomore Alison McCarthy led the AMCATS with 17 points, receiving help from sophomore Tonique Adkins who netted 13 points, and earned one assist while making two offensive rebounds. Junior Samantha Ashton helped Anna Maria with six rebounds and eight points, earning a team-high six assists in the championship round. In the consolation game played earlier in the afternoon, the University of Maine - Machias advanced their record to 5-2, as they had a 15 point advantage on the Green Mountain team for third place. The Clippers had four players land in double-digit territory for points in the game, as freshman Emma LaGallais led the team with 16 points and a stunning nine steals. Each netting 10 points apiece in the game were senior Jenna Hare, junior Kayla Wood, and freshman Danielle Wormell. The Green Mountain team did not go without a fight, with sophomore Chelsea Paul recorded a double-double with 16 points, two assists, and a team-best 15 boards, 13 of which were defensive.
