Rivier Too Much For Softball In GNAC Action

- PAXTON, MASS: The Anna Maria College softball team lost both games of their Saturday GNAC double-header against visiting Rivier University, with scores of 9-4 and 8-3.

 THE BASICS:

- Date: 4/10/2021
- Score: Game 1 - Rivier 9, Anna Maria 4 | Game 2 – River 8, Anna Maria 3
- Records: Rivier (5-1, 3-1 GNAC), Anna Maria (3-7, 0-4 GNAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

-  The first game was hotly contest with Anna Maria freshman designated player Kiara Edmonds (Lynn, MA) hitting a two run home run in the bottom of the sixth to pull the home team to within two. But a pair of AMCAT miscues in the top of the seventh blew the game wide open as the Raiders scored five runs to put the game out of reach.

-  Game two saw Anna Maria score two runs in the bottom of the third off an RBI single from sophomore designated player Kendall McNamee (Somers, CT), followed by freshman pinch hitter JaNyia Maloy (Bonaire, GA) scoring off a fielding error to pull the AMCATS to within one at 3-2. But a four run inning by Rivier in the top of the sixth would once again seal the game for the Raiders.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

-  Anna Maria junior centerfielder Shay Savoie (Namao, AB) made the most of her time on the base paths, stealing five bases over just two games with two hits, two runs scored and a walk.

-  McNamee went three-for-four in game two, with a double and her two plated runs.

-  Anna Maria sophomore catcher Kyleigh Campbell (Merrimac, MA) had two hits including a double in the bottom of the seventh of game one to plate two runs.

- Anna Maria junior pitcher Sabrina Liston (Rehoboth, MA) struck out nine Raiders in a combined nine innings over the two games.
