Softball Downed by Lasers

PAXTON, Mass: The Anna Maria Softball team was unable to defeat conference opponent Lasell College this afternoon in a double header in Newton Massachusetts. The AMCATS fell 12-0 in game one and 9-1 in game two.

 

Records: Lasell 8-29, 4-11 GNAC. AMC 3-22, 0-14 GNAC.

 

The Lasers racked up twelve hits in the shortened contest along with six walks. Shortstop Brianna Gendreau was almost perfect from the plate, getting three hits with four at bats. Gendreau also batted in two Lasell runs. Arianna Genovese was 2-for-3 in game one, with two more runs pushed across.

 

The AMCATS were only able to pick up one hit, and that was by Sabrina Carreira (West Harford, CT). Carreira was a perfect 1-for-1 from at the plate.

 

Pitching

 

Hannah Doherty got the win (3-11) after the one hit shutout. She also sat five Anna Maria hitters down via the strikeout.

 

Ashley Garcia (Cornwall, NY) suffered the loss (1-8) after going one inning with eight hits allowed and eight earned runs.

 

Game Two

 

Lasell out hit the AMCATS twelve to four in the second game, with Victoria Spellman and Kelsey Scannevin leading the way for the Lasers as they combined for four hits and four runs batted in. Scannevin was a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate, while Spellman was 2-for-4.

 

Sabrina Carreira tallied her third hit of the day after going 2-for-3 in game two and she was responsible for the only AMCAT run. Kayla Magierowski (Brimfield, Mass.) was the one that hit in Carreira after she stung a double to the outfield.

 

Pitching

 

Hailey Haskins got the win (5-11) after pitching six innings, allowing only four hits and one earned run.

 

Victoria Falco (Marlborough, Mass.) suffers the loss (2-11) after three and two thirds innings. Falco gave up nine hits and five earned runs.

The AMCATS will be back on the field Sunday morning to play Emmanuel for their senior day at 10:30 AM.
