AMCATS Drop two at home to Elms

PAXTON, Mass – Elms came to Anna Maria Monday afternoon for a non-conference double header with the AMCATS, highlighted for the 'Cats by a game one home run by Jacqueline Lapierre (Worcester, Mass), her second of the season. But, at the end of the day the Blazers left with a sweep of AMC, 8-5 in game one, 13-1 in game two.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Game 1:

Elms scored early in game one, with a run in the first and following it up with a run in the second and a run in the third, taking a 3-0 lead after two and a half innings.

After no being able to answer in the first two innings, the AMCATS rallied in the third, scoring three runs to tie the game on a Lapierre double, scoring Amanda Lemire (Methuen, Mass) from first. Sabrina Carreira (West Hartford, Conn) singled to score Lapierre and the final run scored on a sacrifice fly by Katheryn Rendock (Windsor, Conn).

The AMCATS took a two-run lead in the bottom of the fourth when Lapierre hit her second home run of the year over the left field fence, scoring herself and Yolani Doddy (Vineyard Haven, Mass).

That would be all for the 'Cats offensively, Elms scored three runs in the fifth to take a 6-5 lead and then plated two more in the sixth to take an 8-5 lead which would end up being the final giving Elms the win after a hard fought performance by Anna Maria.

Game 2:

Like game one, the Blazers opened the scoring in the top of the first, this time scoring three runs, two on an Olszewski home run, her seventh of the season. The 'Cats answered in the bottom of the first, scoring their only run of the game on a Carreira single, scoring Lapierre.

The top of the second was big for Elms as they ran their lead out to six runs, 7-1. The inning included back-to-back doubles, each of which scored a run.

The middle innings got quiet for both team, but, in the fifth, Lusardi hit a solo home run for Elms giving them an 8-1 advantage.

The sixth inning put the game away for Elms as they plated five runs taking a 13-1 lead. Though the AMCATS were able to string together eight hits in the game, they were unable to answer and Elms left Paxton with a sweep, taking game two by the 13-1 score.
