AMCATS End Florida Trip with Loss to Kenyon

FORT MYERS, Florida – The AMCATS closed out their Spring Break schedule with a game with Kenyon College on Wednesday afternoon in Fort Myers. Unfortunately, Anna Maria was unable to beat Kenyon, falling to the Lords 15-6 in five innings.

Anna Maria got a three-hit performance from freshman Allison Sholds (Methuen, Mass), one of which was a double. Victoria Falco (Marlborough, Mass) had one hit in the game and drove in two runs, scoring once herself. Juniors Cam Johnson (Worcester, Mass) and Sabrina Carreira (West Hartford, Conn) along with sophomore Mackenzie Shurtleff (Wareham, Mass) drove in the remainder of the runs for AMC.

The Lords spread the production all over their lineup. Madi Maldonado was the only Kenyon hitter with multiple hits. She had two doubles in the game to go along with two walks. She scored three runs and drove in one run. The top five players in the Lord lineup scored more than once in the nine run win.

Unlike the first game of the day, the AMCATS were not able to score first. In the bottom of the first inning the Lords jumped out to a 4-0 lead with two of those runs scoring on defensive miscues by the 'Cats.

Kenyon would strike again in the second inning, this time for eight runs as they batter around, and then some. By the end of the fourth inning, the Lords were blanking the AMCATS 15-0.

In the top of the fifth, the Anna Maria offense came out firing, trying to get back in the game. It started with Carreira driving in Annie Melanson (Grafton, Mass), and ended with Johnson scoring Falco for a total of six runs in the inning but, it wasn't enough as the AMCATS needed eight runs to keep the game going and lost in five by run rule, 15-6.

The AMCATS will travel home tomorrow and have a few days off before they host Elms College in a double header on the 14th in Paxton, Mass beginning at 3pm.
