2018 AMC Softball Captains Announced

PAXTON, Mass – This week, head softball coach Larry Sasso and his staff announced this Spring's team captains.

The AMCAT Softball team will be led by the team's four seniors, Amanda Lemire (Methuen, Mass), Jacqueline Lapierre (Worcester, Mass), Hannah Trudo (Pomfret Center, Conn), and Kathryn Rendock (Windsor, Conn).

"When our new coaching staff was put in place we were very impressed with the way the team accepted and responded to us," coach Sasso said. "We have many leaders on this team; these four seniors have stepped up and helped us throughout in making this a smooth transition.  This team is very young and will rely on these seniors to lead the way on and off the field."

Amanda Lemire has appeared in 94 games so far in her AMCAT career. Though she has not made an appearance in the pitching circle for the AMCATS in her career she will find her way there this season. "Amanda will be a key part of our pitching staff, we are really anxious to see her in the circle after a few weeks of training with our pitching coaches," said coach Sasso. "She is a very mature player with lots of talent, she has been there whenever we needed her during voluntary workouts.  Amanda has lots of experience with the program and has a great approach to the game."

Jacqueline Lapierre has played in 92 games for the AMCATS in three years. She has posted a .344 batting average thus far with a .381 on base percentage. "Jacqueline is a natural leader, and a tremendous player with lots of heart. She has been really helpful to our staff and to the team from the first day, Jackie brings lots of energy and enthusiasm to the team." Said Sasso.

Hannah Trudo has made 38 appearances in AMCAT lineups in her career. She is boasting a .326 on base percentage in those three seasons. "Hannah has been a great example of an effective leader, "Sasso said. "She was there for every voluntary workout that we had this fall with a great attitude and determination.  Hannah's approach and positive attitude is something we hope will be contagious to the rest of the team." Added coach Sasso.

Kathryn Rendock has played in 49 games in an AMC uniform. Last year she made seven appearances in the pitching circle which included two starts. Her sophomore year she logged a .971 fielding percentage for the 'Cats. "Kathryn worked really hard this fall and her past experience on this team will be very important, especially to the first year players," Said coach Sasso. "She is a hard worker and will need her to be someone that can keep the rest of the team working hard each day by following her lead. Kathryn was very dedicated as well, making most of our fall workouts."

The AMCATS will open their 2018 campaign against Albion College and Waynesburg University on March 4th in Fort Myers, Florida.
