Softball Falls At Suffolk in Two Game Series

EAST BOSTON – The Anna Maria College softball team dropped two Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) contests with the Rams of Suffolk University on Saturday afternoon. The Rams took a 9-1 victory in game one and a 14-2 victory in five innings in game two. The loss drops the AMCATS to 4-24 on the season and 2-16 in the conference while the Rams improve to 21-14 and 13-6.

GAME ONE

Rams runners came in in the first and second, respectively, to give the hosts a 2-0 lead over the AMCATS. An Anna Maria error let Sydney Littlefield to cross home plate in the first frame, while a ground out RBI from Devlin Frost scored McKenzie McGrath, who reached on lead-off single, for the 2-0 early edge.

The score held from there before the monster bottom of the fourth put the game away. Morgan Parmeter started things off with a walk and advanced to second on a successful bunt from Jaclyn Flint. The runners were pushed over by a sac bunt from Sydney Littlefield to set up Frost's three RBI dinger over the right field fence. Jill Pulek and Delaney Sylvester followed with blasts of their own to stretch the advantage 7-0 Suffolk.

McGrath and Littlefield each collected an RBI apiece thanks to a single and a walk, respectively, for the 9-0 margin after four innings.

Anna Maria brought one run in the fifth, but the Rams' defense held the AMCATS to just one to secure the 9-1 victory, Suffolk's eighth straight.

Sylvester and Littlefield were each perfect in their plate appearances. Sylvester's day at the dish featured a 2-for-2 performance with both hits going for extra bases, a double and homer, for one RBI and one run. Littlefield, meanwhile, went 1-for-1 with one RBI, one run and two walks. Flint went 3-for-4 at bat and scored one run. McGrath recorded multiple hits with a 2-for-3 effort for one RBI and one run. Frost's lone hit went over the fences as the junior outfielder led the way with four RBI and scored one run.

Ali Yamakaitis threw a one-run, one-hit, three-walk, five-strikeout effort in 5.0 frames. Alexis Romano (Lowell, Mass.) let up nine runs (eight earned) on 12 hits in 4.0 innings.

GAME TWO

The teams traded a run apiece in the second stanza, and zeros were put on the scoreboard in the third before the marathon fourth, which featured 13 Suffolk scores to give the blue-and-gold a 14-1 cushion.

The Rams kept the AMCATS quiet in the top of the fifth to seal the victory.

Lindsay Pagano had a day at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one double for three RBI and one run. Delaney Sylvester's four at bats were featured three hits for two runs and one RBI. Devlin Frost (1-2) and Evelyn Marquis (1-3) each collected two RBI and scored one run apiece. Karina Miranda and Dylan Parsons, who knocked one hit, each scored twice. Taylor Holmes picked up the victory thanks to a two-run, four-hit, four-walk, four-strikeout, 5.0-frame effort inside the circle.

Three different AMCAT arms took the circle for Anna Maria. Kathryn Rendock (Windsor, Conn.) suffered the setback as the starter gave up eight runs on five hits through 3.0 innings.
