Softball Drops Season Opener in South Carolina

North Myrtle Beach, S.C. – The Anna Maria College softball team dropped to the Wildcats of Cazenovia College 7-1 on Monday, March 6th in their season opener in the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic in North, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

The loss drops the AMCATS to 0-1 on the season while the Wildcats improve to 1-0.

GAME ONE vs. CAZENOVIA

The first three innings remained scoreless as Ally Hamelin (Greenfield, Mass.) struck out five batters for the AMCATS. Cazenovia got on the board in the top of the fourth as Jessica Keller tripled to score Chelsie Thomas. Keller crossed home on an AMCAT infielding error.

Cazenovia added five more runs in the top of the fifth inning as Amanda Brand drove in two runs from a double and Keller launched another triple to add two RBIs of her own.

Anna Maria got on the board in the bottom of the sixth inning. Amanda Lemire (Methuen, Mass.) walked and got into scoring position after advancing to second on a Cazenovia pass ball. Jaqueline Lapierre (Worcester, Mass.) drove in the AMCATS only run of the game as she tripled to left field to bring in Lemire (7-1).

This would end scoring for both teams as the Wildcats took the ultimate 7-1 victory.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

Anna Maria notched three hits in the loss coming from Lapierre, Kayla Magierowski (Spencer, Mass.) and Kathryn Rendock (Windsor, Conn.). Lapierre led the AMCATS going one-for-three at the plate with one RBI.

Hamelin pitched a complete game giving up nine hits and seven runs (five earned) over seven innings. She walked just four batters and recorded seven strikeouts.
