Men's Soccer Posts Back To Back Shutouts In 1-0 Win Over Owls
PAXTON, MA - On Tuesday, September 3rd the Anna Maria College men's soccer team hosted the Westfield State University Owls for a non-conference matchup. The AMCATS won the game 1-0!
After a back and forth battle to open up the game, the AMCATS put their strong defensive play on full display as they shut down the Owls offense. Nearly fifteen minutes into the first half, the game would see its first and only goal after a corner kick from Rubelsi Moran developed into a net front scrum resulting in a goal from Juan Gomez. The AMCATS goal would light a fire under the Owls as they persisted on offense with two quick scoring opportunities. The AMCATS defense would continue to battle and hold the game at 1-0 as the first half came to a close.
Hungry to try and tie things up, the Owls got things started in the second half with a header opportunity stopped by Valter Santiago. The Owls would continue their offensive persistence as time ran down in the second half, only to be met by Santiago on the back end who stopped all four shots that came his way. Holding on to the lead, the AMCATS would run the clock out resulting in their second consecutive win to start the season. Santiago would get his second consecutive shut along with six saves on the evening.
