‘Cats Take Third at Salem State Tournament with Win Over Southern Vermont

SALEM, MASS – The AMCATS were back on the pitch Saturday afternoon to take on Southern Vermont College in the consolation game of the Salem State Tournament after their 1-0 overtime loss against Curry to open the tournament Friday afternoon.

For Anna Maria, junior Ryan Todesco (Southwick, Mass) scored the first goal of the game in the 15th minute which was assisted by sophomore Nick Lawrence (Attleboro, Mass). Midway through the second half, in the 64th minute, Connor Francis (Colchester, Conn) added a second goal for the AMCATS which was assisted by Todesco and would prove to be the game winner.

The Mountaineers, who had lost to Salem State in their first game on Friday, fell behind the AMCATS early and would go two goals down before they were able to find the back of the net. Nick Langat would do that for SVC in the 69th minute with the assist from Carlos Ponce.

The 69th minute score by the Mountaineers would prove to not be enough as the AMCATS took the 2-1 win to take third in the Salem State Tournament and improve to 1-1 on the season. The victory is the first career victory for first year head coach Jake Pesarcik.

The AMCATS will travel to Brookline, Mass on Wednesday September 5th to take on the Pine Manor Gators at 4pm.
