MEN’S SOCCER: Suffolk gets past AMCATS

- The Lead: The Suffolk University men's soccer team scored three first-half goals Wednesday evening and went on to defeat Anna Maria College, 3-1, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) men's soccer clash at AMCAT Field.
How It Happened:
-The Rams got on the board early as sophomore James Fisher (Longmeadow, Mass.) converted a header into a goal in the sixth minute on a feed from classmate Felipe Ucros (Guatemala). It was Fisher's fourth goal of the season.
-Sophomore Christian Restrepo (Everett, Mass.) extended the margin in the 22nd minute when he beat a defender on the right side and knocked a shot through the keeper to make it 2-0. Restrepo leads the team this season with six goals.
-Sophomore Matt Campos (Hyannis, Mass.) tallied Suffolk's third goal with seven minutes remaining in the half on a blast from about 30 yards out that found the top right corner of the goal, It was Campos' first goal this season.
-Anna Maria broke up the clean sheet in the 50th minute when sophomore Gift Kalombo (Worcester, Mass.) answered with his own 30-yard shot that went into the top left corner, his team-leading sixth goal of the season.
Inside the Numbers:
-The visitors finished with an 11-5 advantage in shots, including 7-3 in the first half.
-Suffolk sophomore keeper Jon Brodeur (Northampton, Mass.) earned the victory (3-1), making two saves.
-Junior keeper Mark Robinshaw (Ashford, Conn.) made seven stops for the AMCATS.
-The AMCATS held a slight advantage in corner kicks, 6-5.

The AMCATS continue their three-game home stand on Saturday, Oct. 7, hosting Mount Ida College at noon in a GNAC encounter. Suffolk is on the road again on Saturday for a visit to Emmanuel College for a noon GNAC affair.
