AMCATS Fall Short in Conference Battle with Regis, 3-2

The Basics:

-Score: Regis College 3, Anna Maria College 2

-Records: Anna Maria (1-2-1), Regis (2-1)

-Location: Paxton, MA. (AMCAT Field)

-The Lead: The Anna Maria College Men's Soccer team fell to The Pride of Regis College in their first Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) game of the season, 3-2.

How it happened:

-The Pride opened up scoring minutes into the game with a goal from senior midfielder, David Venegas (Econdido, Calif.).

-After battling through the first half, The AMCATS came back with a goal from freshman Nick Lawrence (Attleboro, Mass.) to tie up the score. Three minutes after the AMCATS goal, junior Derek Triana (Port St. Luice) fired one past AMCAT goalkeeper, Mark Robinshaw (Ashford, Conn.) putting Regis back in the lead (2-1).

-Both teams battled it out in the midfield half-way through the second half until  Triana scored his second goal of the game putting the Pride two goals ahead of the AMCATS (3-1).

-After a foul was called on The Pride, Gift Kalombo (Worcester, Mass.) scored a goal for the AMCATS from a penalty kick opportunity. The AMCATS tried to run off the momentum of their last goal but it ultimately wasn't enough resulting in a loss of 3-2.

Behind The Numbers:

-Robinshaw had two saves in the game for the AMCATS while Regis's goalkeeper, Jesse Bonilla (Ramona, Calif.) had one.   

-Triana led all scorers on the day with two goals.

-The Pride outshot The AMCATS 13-10 and both teams were each granted four corner kicks throughout the game.

The AMCATS are on the road September 13th heading to Eastern Connecticut for a 4:00 p.m. non-conference match up.  The Regis Pride are on the road as well on September 13th at Fitchburg State at 7:00 p.m. in a non-conference action.
