Rams Charge to 5-1 Victory over Men's Soccer

Boston, Mass.—The Anna Maria College Men's Soccer team suffered a 5-1 conference loss at Suffolk University on Saturday afternoon at James A. Sartori Field. With the loss the AMCATS fall to 2-10-1 overall and 1-5-1 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action. The Rams improve to 7-6 overall and 5-2 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED?

The Rams took an early lead as they picked up their first goal just seven minutes into play. The AMCATS responded with a goal eight minutes later to tie the game at two. This would end scoring for the AMCATS, but Suffolk kicked in into gear as they tallied two more first half goals and two second half goals.

The Rams outshot the AMCATS 25-12 (14-6 on goal) as they took  17 in the first half and eight in the second. The AMCATS took six shots per half. Suffolk was granted 6 corner kicks while Anna Maria took four. The game was played cleanly overall with eight fouls called on Suffolk and seven called on the AMCATS. Only one yellow card was distributed on the day, going to the Rams.
 

SCORING

Senior Alberto Bittan tallied the Ram's first goal just seven minutes into play for his 13th goal of the season as he picked up a pass from Davis Jarrett and buried it past AMCAT goalkeeper Jonathan Alicea (Feeding Hills, Mass.). Eight minutes later, AMCAT senior Christopher Mattioli (Sturbridge, Mass.) notched his seventh goal of the season as he received a pass from Derrick Casey (Worcester, Mass.) and fired it past Ram's netminder Jon Brodeur.

The Rams were able to tally two more goals before the half. Aaron Hagas dodged AMCAT defenders and launched a shot to the back of the AMCAT net to put Suffolk up 2-1. The Rams earned an insurance goal as Bittan tallied his second goal of the game and 14th of the season off of another pass from Jarrett. The Rams took the 3-1 lead into halftime.

Christian Restrepo was the second half star for Suffolk as he netted two more goals. Jarrett assisted on both of his goals. Jarrett combined four points from four assists on the day.

GOALKEEPERS

Alicea had nine saves in the loss while Brodeur tallied five saves on the day and earned the victory. Alicea is now 0-3 in net for the AMCATS while Brodeur moves to 5-3 overall.

WHAT'S NEXT?

The AMCATS host Albertus Magnus in GNAC action on Tuesday, October 18th for a 6:30 p.m. start. The Rams travel to Springfield College for a 4:00 p.m. start on Monday, October 17th.
