Men's Soccer Falls 3-0 at Emmanuel

BOSTON, Mass. – Anna Maria dropped 3-0 to the Emmanuel College Men's Soccer Team on Saturday afternoon. With the victory, Emmanuel now stands at 5-6-2 on the season and 2-2-1 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action.  The loss dropped the visiting AMCATS to 2-8-1 overall and 1-3-1 in league play.

HOW IT HAPPENED?

The Saints outshot the AMCATS 24-7 with 13 of them on net while the AMCATS took just three shots on goal. Emmanuel was awarded seven corner kicks while Anna Maria was awarded just one. Both teams were issued a total of eight fouls on the day.

SCORING

The Saints took an early 1-0 lead, off a goal from senior forward Colin O'Donnell (Killingworth, Conn.), his first of two goals on the day.  In the 15th minute of action, sophomore defender Travis Cole (Beckley, W.V.) placed a throw-in deep into the box and O'Donnell calmly headed it past Anna Maria keeper Jonathan Alicea (Feeding Hills, Mass.). This would cap the first-half scoring, as the host Saints took a 1-0 lead and an 11-3 shooting advantage into halftime.

O'Donnell would find the back of the net again midway through the second period.  Sophomore midfielder Henry Morrison (Great Barrington, Mass.) sent the ball quickly up the right sideline, finding O'Donnell on the break.  The senior then beat Alicea one-on-one for his 10th marker of the season, scoring in the 68th minute.

O'Donnell rocketed a point blank shot at Alicea in the 77th minute, but the senior keeper was able to knock it down.  Cole then played the rebound into the net for his first collegiate goal at Emmanuel.  O'Donnell earned an assist on the play, his 23rd point of the season.

GOALKEEPERS

Freshman goalie Jonathan Ferrarini (Hanover, Mass.) notched three saves in the shutout victory for the Saints.  Alicea took the loss for Anna Maria, but made 10 saves in the effort.

The Saints are back in action on Monday (10/10), traveling to Suffolk University for a 1:00 PM Columbus Day showdown.  The AMCATS will host Saint Joseph's College (ME) in a 2:00 PM start on Monday.
