Men's Soccer Claims 3-1 Victory over Becker

LEICESTER, Mass. --- The Becker College men's soccer team fell to visiting Anna Maria College 3-1 on Tuesday afternoon at Alumni Field. The win lifts the AMCATS record to 2-7-1 while the Hawks remain winless at 0-10-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Royal and White went on the offensive early, tallying three shots in the opening eight minutes, including two on goal. Ultimately, however, it was the AMCATS who scored first, as freshman midfielder Ryan Todesco (Southwick, Mass.) took advantage of a save off a long throw-in to head the ball into the back of the net as Anna Maria went up 1-0.

The Hawks had their best chance with six minutes left in the first period as sophomore midfielder Destri Desilets (Woonsocket, R.I.) took a cross from a tough angle directly in front of the goal. Desilets got a shot off despite the presence of a defender, but the keeper finally fell on it to hold Becker off.

The AMCATS increased their lead to 2-0 when Derrick Casey (Worcester, Mass.) centered a pass to Christopher Mattioli (Sturbridge, Mass.) for his sixth goal of the season.

Becker cut the Anna Maria lead in half with 20:21 into the second half when William Tripp (Aberdeen, Md.) tickled the twine with a shot from 25 yards out for his first maker of the season.

The two teams battled back in forth until Anna Maria's Gift Kalombo (Worcester, Mass.) put the game out of reach when he split the Becker defense for a breakaway goal with 1:02 remaining in regulation.

GOALKEEPERS

Becker sophomore goalkeeper Devin Ramos (Warwick, R.I.), who is ranked second in the country in saves per game, finished with eight stops in net. Anna Maria sophomore goalkeeper Mark Robinshaw (Ashford, Conn.) recorded four saves.

Becker will be back on the field on Saturday, October 8th when they host Southern Vermont in an 11:00 match. The AMCATS will play at Emmanuel College on Saturday at 12:00 p.m.
