Casey Tabbed to GNAC All-Conference Third Team

WINTHROP, Mass.—Freshman Derrick Casey (Worcester, Mass.) of the Anna Maria College men's soccer team has been named to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) All-Conference Third Team, as announced by the league office on Monday morning.

Casey was instrumental in the team's hot-streak at the end of the 2014 season. He scored the game-winning goal in the AMCATS' 2-0 win against Albertus Magnus on October 17th, and added an assist in the team's next game, a 2-1 win against Rivier. On the season, the freshman forward tallied three goals and an assist for a second-best seven points.

Two of his three goals were recorded in GNAC play, as he also scored the game-winning goal in Anna Maria's 3-2 win against Emmanuel on September 27th.

Senior captain Bryan Blomgren (Auburn, Mass.) was named to the league's All-Sportsmanship team for the second-straight season.

Casey becomes the second AMCAT to earn GNAC postseason recognition since Anna Maria joined the GNAC in 2011. Last season, Justin Hyland '14 was also named to the third team.

Senior forward O'Kyle Corridon of Johnson and Wales University was named the league's Player of the Year, while junior defender Christian Albrecht was tabbed the Defensive Player of the Year. Freshman Newton Jordao of Lasell was selected as the Rookie of the Year, while JWU head coach Dave Kulik was named the Coach of the Year.

The AMCATS wrapped up 2014 with one of their best seasons to-date, as the team recorded a 4-12 overall record with a 3-6 record in GNAC play. The AMCATS just narrowly missed a seed in the postseason tournament.
