Casey Earns GNAC Men's Soccer Rookie of the Week Honors
PAXTON, Mass.—Freshman Derrick Casey (Worcester, Mass.) of the Anna Maria College men's soccer team was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.
It marks the first time this season that a member of the AMCAT men's soccer team has earned a GNAC weekly honor.
Casey was the game-decider in the AMCATS' 2-0 shutout win against Albertus Magnus College on Friday evening. He scored the game-winning goal in the eighth minute to set the tone for the AMCATS. The win marked just the third conference victory for the AMCATS since joining the GNAC in 2011.
The goal was the third in 2014 for Casey, who has also recorded an assist on the season and ranks third on the squad in total points with seven.
The AMCATS conclude the regular season with two home games this week. The team will square off with Rivier on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. before battling Lasell on Friday, also at 4:00 p.m.
