Wildcats Race Past AMCATS, 3-1

Paxton, Mass. – The Anna Maria College men's soccer team dropped a 3-1 Great Northeast Athletic Conference match-up to visiting Johnson & Wales University on Saturday afternoon at AMCAT Field. The AMCATS dip to 2-10-1 (1-4 GNAC) on the season and the Wildcats move to 8-4-1 (4-1 GNAC) overall.

Wildcat senior O'Kyle Corridon (Selden, NY) netted a natural hat trick to lead JWU, while sophomore Christopher Mattioli (Sturbridge, Mass.) potted a penalty kick for the AMCATS score.

Corridon opened up the scoring on the first shot of the day, just 2:08 into the match. Senior Dustin Hughes (Holden, Mass.) fed Corridon down the left wing then the forward crossed to the middle and drove a low ball past AMCAT netminder Elliot Kuzma (East Haven, CT) for the quick 1-0 lead.

Johnson and Wales doubled the lead in the 38th minute. Junior Marcos Mendez (Brewster, Wash.) threaded a pass to Corridon, who notched his second of the day, and eighth of the season for a 2-0 advantage heading into intermission.

The Wildcats outshot the AMCATS 11-2 in the first half, and held a 17-6 advantage for the day.

The teams would trade penalty kicks in second half, both being awarded after defensive infractions in the box. Corridon completed his trifecta in the 66th minute. Mattioli converted the PK at 69:06 to break-up the shutout.

Kuzma finished the day with three saves for AMC, and Mattioli led the offense with 4 shots.

Anna Maria returns to action on Monday afternoon when they travel to Suffolk University for a 4:00 PM GNAC tilt.
