WPI Doubles-Up Men's Soccer, 2-0

PAXTON, Mass.—The Anna Maria College men's soccer team battled the Engingeers of Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) for 73 scoreless minutes, but the Engineers ultimately prevailed, 2-0, in Tuesday afternoon's non-conference game at AMCAT Field.

WPI's Tynan MacLeod (Groton, Mass.) broke up the scoreless game in the 74th minute, as he tapped in a pass from Kurt Naugler (Westford, Mass.) that ran the length of the goal line. MacLeod's shot was stopped by an AMCAT defender, but the defender was ruled to be over the goal line at the time of contact.

Fifteen minutes later, WPI would score again as Chris Murray (Canton, Mass.) fired a shot from 35 yards out through the dense fog and over the head of AMCAT netminder Elliot Kuzma (East Haven, Conn.)

The AMCATS, who were outshot 12-3 in the first half, made offensive adjustments in the second frame and rebounded with eight shots. Anna Maria's best scoring opportunity came in the 76th minute when sophomore Christopher Mattoli (Sturbridge, Mass.) forced WPI goalkeeper Jordan Finzel (Northport, N.Y.) to make back-to-back saves.

Kuzma totaled nine saves for Anna Maria in the loss, while Fizel made seven saves en route to his second win of the season.

The AMCATS will return to Great Northeast Athletic Conference competition on Saturday as they travel to Norwich University for a 1:00 p.m. game. WPI also be in action on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. as it travels to Emerson for a NEWMAC matchup.
