AMCATS Fall to Lesley in Season Finale

CAMBRIDGE, MA – Lesley University (11-4-2) capped its regular season with a 2-0 victory over visiting Anna Maria College (2-15-1) in non-conference men's soccer play on Senior Night at Edward Field.

Lesley broke a scoreless tie with Chris Hunt's (San Diego, CA/Rancho Bernardo) first goal as a Lynx on a header in the 54th minute. Ari Sinanis' Lesley record-setting 11th assist then found Ahmed Abubakar (Springfield, VA/Robert E. Lee) for his second score of the year in the 64th minute.

The Lynx controlled the ball for the majority of the first half, outshooting the AMCATS 8-0 for the period. Sinanis threatened on a header that sailed just outside the left post at 7:10, and fellow senior Jared Winston's attempt from the left corner was tipped over the crossbar by Anna Maria keeper Andrew Dahl (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) with 1:57 remaining in the first, keeping the game scoreless through 45 minutes.

Lesley broke the tie eight minutes out of halftime and added an insurance goal 11 minutes later, both by way of corner kick. Jonathan Jones Takano's (Tokyo, Japan/Bunker Hill CC) header off of a Ryan Richardson (Santa Barbara, CA/Santa Barbara) corner kick was blocked by an Amcats defender at the goal line, where Hunt took the rebound with a header that got the Lynx on the board in the 54th minute.

A Sinanis kick from the left corner sailed far post and was corralled by Abubakar, who tapped the insurance strike into the top right corner at 64:32, and the Lynx went on to a 2-0 win.

For the game, Lesley outshot Anna Maria 18-1. Dahl made one save for the AMCATS, and Lesley freshman keeper Trevor Martin (Whitinsville, MA/Northbridge) earned his first collegiate win in 45 minutes of reserve action.

Lesley's 12 seniors were honored at a post-game ceremony. At a perfect 7-0-0 in New England Collegiate Conference play, Lesley now awaits its NECC Tournament opponent.
