Pride Powers Past AMCATS in Men's Soccer

WESTON, Mass. – Seven different players registered at least one point on Wednesday evening, as the Regis College Pride defeated the AMCATS of Anna Maria by a decisive 5-0 score at Regis Stadium. Freshman Kenny Charron (West Warwick, R.I.) led the charge for the host squad, posting four points off of a goal and two assists.

Regis controlled the play early, outshooting its opponent by a 4-0 margin in the first 15 minutes of action. The Pride were finally rewarded at the 15:26 mark when junior Jeff Parrish (Framingham, Mass.) headed a cross from Ricardo Argueta's (Los Angeles, Calif.) corner kick and found the back of the net for the 1-0 lead.
Regis added to its lead just minutes later after great combination passing from Renato Rosas (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) and Steve Tavares (Bellingham, Mass.) After receiving a pass from Rosas, Tavares quickly dished the ball over to Charron, who shot the ball into the lower left corner of the net past Andrew Dahl (Marlton, N.J.) to put Regis up by two. Anna Maria registered two shots in the first half, but was unable to capitalize.
Billy Sedewitz (Framingham, Mass.) tacked on some more insurance for the Crimson and Gold in the 53-rd minute of play. The junior collected the ball in the box and calmly placed a low, hard shot past goalkeeper Scott Webster (Ocala, Fla.), who relieved Dahl in the second half. The goal marked the first of the season for Sedewitz.
Charron recorded his first assist on the day when he made a pass to Tavares in the box, who was able to beat the keeper on an easy-tap in play for a 4-0 lead. Tavares now has eleven goals on the year. Freshman Christian Mukala (Malden, Mass.) wrapped up the scoring for Regis at the 68:26 minute mark. After an initial shot from Charron bounced off of the crossbar, Mukala followed the rebound and headed the ball into the net for the 5-0 score.
The AMCATS picked up their pressure in the second half, recording six shots and four shots on goal. Enco Lika (Worcester, Mass.) registered a game-high three shots on goal for Anna Maria, but Stefan Todorovic (Los Angeles, Calif.) was able to preserve the shutout.
Dahl and Webster split time in goal for the Amcats. Dahl did not record a save, while Webster made three saves.
Regis improves to 4-8-0 on the season, while Anna Maria falls to 2-8-1. Both teams will get back to conference play on Saturday, as Regis will welcome Newbury for a 12:30 p.m. contest and Anna Maria will host Lasell at 11:00 a.m.
