Mustangs Muster Past AMCATS in Men’s Soccer

Tuesday, September 25, 2012 (Newton, Massachusetts) - Five different players for the Mount Ida College men's soccer team tallied scores Tuesday afternoon en route to a 5-1 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) victory over visiting Anna Maria College on Alumni Field. Three Mustangs notched their first goals of the season led by junior forward Dave Miller (Randolph, MA/Prospect Hill Academy) who also added an assist.

The hosts capture their second league win (2-3-0 GNAC) improving to an overall slate of 3-4-1 while the AmCats fall to 2-5-1 for 2012 year and remain winless in GNAC action at 0-4-1.

The Mustangs scored the first three goals of the contest on a rebound off the keeper that was flicked on by freshman forward James Ames (West Hartford, CT/Conrad) that Miller blasted into the net taking the opening 1-0 advantage in the 27th minute. Mount Ida had a plethora of opportunities before recording their first score pounding 15 shots on net in the opening stanza.

Freshman midfielder Kevin McKeon (Santa Rosa, CA/Rancho Cotate) recorded his first goal of the season via a header in the box on a nice cross by junior Steven MacDonald (Medford, MA/Arlington Catholic) in the 43rd minute up 2-0 with no answer from the visitors.

Three minutes later (45th), sophomore forward Michael Templeton (Charlestown, NH/Fall Mountain) added an unassisted bid into the lower right corner for the commanding 3-0 advantage.

Anna Maria finally got on the board in the beginning of the second half with AMCAT sophomore midfielder Deven Plant (Worcester, MA/North) depositing a shot into the lower right corner on a feed from freshman Devaunte Maynes (Bellport, NY/Bellport) making it 3-1 hosts.

In the 57th minute, Mount Ida senior Ryan Richardson (Winfield, KS/Winfield) was awarded a penalty shot after a hard foul in the box that he converted into the top right corner to cushion the host lead up 4-1.

Mount Ida net minder Matt Pils (Monroe, CT/Masuk) chalked up his third win of the season stopping three AMCAT attempts. Anna Maria split halves between the pipes with freshman Scott Webster (Ocala, FL/Belleview) starting the contest stopping two Mustang shots. Freshman Andrew Dehl (Mariton, NJ/Cherokee) saw the second stanza making six saves letting in three goals.
