Men's Soccer Downed by Suffolk

Somerville, MA-- The Suffolk University Men's Soccer team scored nine goals to cruise to a 9-0 victory over the Anna Maria College AMCATS in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Saturday afternoon.

Junior Christian Gnonlonfoun (Porto-Novo, Benin) tallied four, while freshman Alberto Benhamu (Caracas, Venezuela) added a goal and two assists in the Rams victory.

The win moves Suffolk to a 3-0 start to begin the 2012 season, while in the three contests they have now outscored their opponents 17-2.

Senior Ben Rollins (Lee, N.H.) got the scoring going in the tenth minute of the game as he had a takeaway deep in AMCATS territory and put home his third goal in as many games on a breakaway.

Eight minutes later Benhamu would score unassisted to build a two goal edge.

Gnonlonfoun added two goals later on in the first half, with junior Jeff Williams (Geneva, Ill.) rounding out the first half scoring for Suffolk with his second tally of the young season. Williams would make several shift moves to score after taking a feed from senior Joe Harvey (Reading, Mass.).

Sophomore Djibril Niang (Dakar, Senegal) opened the second half scoring in the game's fifty-fifth minute as he converted a feed from Benhamu. Freshman Eduardo Li (Curridabat, Costa Rica) would score his first career goal at the sixty-two minute mark, before Gnonlonfoun rounded out the scoring with a pair of breakaway goals late in the second half.

Anna Maria had their best chance to score in the opening minutes of the contest when freshman Jeff Fletcher (Oxnard, Calif.) took a loose ball in front of the Rams goal. All alone, Fletcher's shot bounced off the post and was quickly covered up by freshman goalkeeper Nicholas Chamma (Rio de Janero, Brazil).

Chamma would earn the win in goal for the Rams working the first half making a pair of saves. Sophomore James Potter (North Kingstown, R.I.) made one save in the second half for the Rams.

Anna Maria will be back in action on Tuesday afternoon with a non-conference tilt with Fisher College beginning at 4:00pm  Suffolk will travel to Endicott College on Monday afternoon for a 3:30pm game time.
