Mariners Sink AMCATS

Paxton, Mass. – Anna Maria College men's soccer was downed 3-0 by the Mariners of Mitchell College today in non-conference action today at AMCAT Field.

Mitchell had three different goal scores on the day, Frank Williams, Zachary Simmons and Michael Berthiaume each notched goals.

AMCAT sophomore Ryan Goehring (Hampton, NJ) led the AMCATS with two shots on goal.

The Mariners scored the games' first goal off an AMCAT defensive miscue, sophomore Frank Williams (Westerly, RI) dribbled in an unassisted goal at the 14:19 mark of the first stanza. Mitchell doubled their lead in the 31st minute when Zachary Simmons (Coventry, Conn.) converted a pass from Jordan Derosier (Bristol, Conn.) inside the right post.

Senior Michael Berthiaume (Brooklyn, Conn.) put the game out of reach in the 83rd minute as he put back a rebound off AMCAT goaltender Andrew Dahl (Marlton, NJ). Dahl made the initial save off a shot by Zach Rocheleau (Winchendon, Mass.) but the rebound popped out too far and Berthiaume capitalized.

Dahl replaced staring goaltender Elliot Kuzma (East Haven, Conn.), who left with an injury, in the first half. Dahl had six saves in the loss.

The AMCATS return to action on Wednesday, September 5 when they travel to Salve Regina University for a 4:30 pm match.
