Lion Tame AMCATS in GNAC Match-up

PAXTON, Mass. — The Emerson Lions men's soccer team defeated the Anna Maria AMCATS 3-0 in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference match-up on Wednesday night at AMCAT Field.  With the win, Emerson improves to 6-5 (5-1 GNAC), while Anna Maria now falls to 2-11-1 (0-5) on the year.

The Lions, who are on a 5 game winning streak, tagged the scoreboard just 4:39 into the game. After a Jon Havens (Williamsport, PA) shot from 10 yards out, AMC goaltender Mike Dandurand (Warwick, RI) made the initial save but the ball squirted away and Jacob Lawrence (Clifton, VA) was able to put in the rebound for his 6th goal of the season.

Just two minutes later the AMCATS committed a defensive penalty in the box and Ken Nikravesh (Geneva, Switzerland) converted the penalty shot and the Lions had a quick 2-0 lead.

Emerson's Lawrence picked up an assist on a beautiful cross from the left side end line to the right post that Manuel Lara tipped in for a 3-0 lead in the 21st minute.

The teams played a scoreless second half. Emerson held the games edge in shots 14-7 and corners 9-1. Emerson's goaltender Noah Price (Apex, NC) had one save for the shutout, his counter-part Dandurand had 5 saves in the loss.

Emerson returns to action on Saturday when they travel to Albertus Magnus for a 1:00 pm match-up, while Anna Maria hosts Mt. Ida on Saturday at 7:30 pm.
