Seahawks Clip AMCATS in Overtime

PAXTON, Mass. (9.9.2011) – Salve Regina sophomore Patrick Charland (Duxbury, Mass.) converted a penalty kick at the 93rd minute to give the Seahawks a 2-1 win over Anna Maria College in men's soccer non-conference action in a hard fought rain soaked game on AMCAT field.

The Seahawks broke the 0-0 tie in 38th minute when junior Patrick Vierengel (Armonk, NY) stole the ball from the AMCAT defender and rifled a ball over the head of goalkeeper Mike Dandurand (Warwick, RI) from the right wing 30 yards out.

Dandurand made the save of the game, keeping it a 1-0 game, at the 70th minute as a streaking Zachary Kraft (Tenafly, NJ) paced a ball low and outside from the right wing, the AMCAT keeper dove to his right making a fingertip save.

AMC tied the game, with just over seven minutes on the clock, on an Allan Mugisha (Burlington, Mass.) goal with the helper going to AJ Lambert (Charlton, Mass.).

Winning goalkeeper Kyle Kureczka (Berlin, CT) had one save while his counterpart Dandurand had 12 saves in the loss.

Both teams return to action this Saturday, with Salve hosting Wentworth at 3:00 PM, and the AMCATS heading to Mitchell College for a 3:00 pm tilt.
