AMCATS Outscored by Mustangs on the Road

NEWTON, Mass. --  Junior Kyle Ton (Norwich, Conn.) netted four goals and a pair of assists for six points to lead Mount Ida to a 15-7 Great Northeast Athletic Conference men's lacrosse victory over Anna Maria Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field.

The host Mustangs (7-7, 6-1 GNAC) overcame an early 1-0 deficit by scoring the final three goals of the opening quarter, and junior Jacob Gordon's (Niantic, Conn.) tally 26 seconds into the second stanza extended that margin to 4-1.  The visiting Amcats (4-11, 2-6 GNAC) closed back to within two on sophomore Brandon Pavoni's (Granby, Mass.) marker just over a minute later, but Mount Ida again scored the last three goals of the frame, including Ton's man-up tally and a man-down marker from freshman Mike Alibrandi (Holliston, Mass.), to take a 7-2 edge at the break.

The squads traded two goals each after intermission before the hosts broke things open with four answered tallies (two by Ton) in less than seven minutes to take their largest lead of the day at 14-4 midway through the fourth quarter, as Anna Maria received a pair of man-up markers from freshman Cameron Perry (Coventry, R.I.) in the last 93 seconds of action to account for the final margin.

Junior Owen LaPorte (Farmington, Conn.) added four scores as well on the day for the Mustangs, which received a goal and three assists each from senior Marcus Donahue (Braintree, Mass.) and sophomore Dakari Eason (Norwalk, Conn.).  Alibrandi collected a pair of helpers to go with his tally in finishing with three points for Mount Ida, which also received a marker and assist from junior Adam Lavallee (Pawtucket, R.I.).  Junior Eric Walker (Newington, Conn.) and freshman Michael Muench (Maplewood, N.J.) chipped in with goals as well for the hosts, who received a helper off the stick of freshman Roman Dennis (Lewiston, Maine).

Pavoni scored four goals in the setback for Anna Maria, which received a hat trick from Perry, a pair of assists from junior Ryan Rockwal(Chicopee, Mass.) and single helpers from seniors Malik Griffith (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Andrew Marcotte (Plainville, Mass.).  Senior Cam Hayward (Derry, N.H.) picked up his seventh victory of the spring with a nine-save effort in goal for Mount Ida, while junior Paul Schwarz (Staten Island, N.Y.) made 20 stops in the setback for the Amcats as the Mustangs outshot Anna Maria by a 50-25 margin overall (35-16 on goal) and held a 16-8 edge in face-offs for the contest.
